Land Buyers and Affordable Housing Developers

Housing Earmarked For Wigan Cattle Market Site

Working with PWA Planning, housing association Jigsaw and developer Stanley Investments have launched a public consultation on plans to build 70 homes on a former cattle market in Wigan.

The brownfield site off Field Street and Hey Street has lain derelict for years and Jigsaw is now planning to bring forward up to 70 affordable homes on the site, including a mix of semi-detached and terraced homes alongside apartments.

Working with PWA and Stanley Investments, the project team is working up designs for the scheme and has opened a public consultation for the site ahead of a planning application.

The site borders the railway on one side and is a short distance from both of Wigan’s main train stations, as well as the DW Stadium.

Pre-application discussions have already taken place with Wigan Council, but PWA said the development “remains in draft and may be subject to revisions following comments from the local community”.

Paul Walton, director of PWA Planning, said: “This development will vastly improve the appearance of the area, transforming a site that has become an eyesore for residents and local businesses.

“This is a sustainable brownfield site that will bring much-needed affordable homes to the area. We look forward to working with Jigsaw Homes and Stanley Developments to submit a planning application in the near future.”

The consultation can be accessed here, and comments close on 25 June 2018.
